International Accountability

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada and its member companies believe in accountability not only to Canadians, but to the international community as well.

Every two years, the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) meets to discuss global sustainability initiatives, and to review specific sectors. When the commission convenes in May 2010, the international chemistry industry will be among the sectors reviewed.

The Canadian government has prepared a comprehensive summary of chemicals management for the United Nations which highlights the contribution of the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada’s Responsible Care® initiative – both for voluntarily reducing emissions and for promoting product stewardship.

The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada plans to attend the upcoming CSD meeting, where – along with the International Council of Chemistry Associations (ICCA) – it will raise awareness about the chemistry sector’s sustainability initiatives, including the Responsible Care® Global Charter and the Global Product Strategy.
